OWEN COWAN
NATHAN GIFFORD
We put the “un” in Country. Unpretentious. Unrefined. Unimportant. You could call us Texas Red Dirt or Alternative Country, or some other names people have called us. We just play what we like, and if we want something else, we write it.

Monster Truck started out in 1993 as two U.S. Army guys playing guitars in Augsburg, Germany at Lucky’s Piano Bar. German audiences loved our harmonies and our colleagues liked our irreverent humor (forgive them, they were drunk). We became Lucky’s weekly Saturday night show, and added a drummer to expand to larger venues on- and off-post (or you could say, off-base).

We went separate ways when our Army days ended, but continued to polish our music in the studio. After more years than it would take to raise a baby through high school graduation, we are finally releasing our first recording for sale.

Owen reached the pinnacle of his musical success when he was first trumpet in his junior high school band. But he really found his passion when his friend, Craig, told him he should buy a bass for their musical duo, Mothers of Distortion. Owen pulls together the influences of Keith Whitley, AC/DC, and many in between to craft his punchy music with down-home humor. He contributes bass, vocals, drums, guitar, lyrics, arrangements, production and procrastination.

Nathan (“Giff”) charms audiences with his corny jokes and Elvis-like vocal delivery. He charms friends, too, because he is so darn nice. His musical history is mysterious, or maybe he told us but we didn’t listen. Maybe I should ask him before I write this. He contributes guitar, vocals and lyrics.
